Fish tacos are a favorite in this household. More specifically, Baja Style Fish Tacos! There are five main elements that make Baja fish tacos, authentically, “Baja”. Fried white fish, shredded cabbage, fresh cilantro, chipotle cream sauce, or any creamy white sauce, and fresh-squeezed lime juice. For now, though we’re just going to focus on that delicious Chipotle Cream Sauce Recipe! This chipotle cream sauce recipe is one thing, among others, that makes my Baja fish tacos the most glorious of all fish tacos.

What The Heck is a “Baja” Fish Taco?
Well, it’s a fish taco that must have the elements I mentioned before.
- Fried white fish
- Shredded cabbage
- Creamy white sauce
- Fresh Cilantro
- Freshly squeezed lime juice
Baja fish tacos get their name from Baja California where it is said they originated. Baja California is a state in Mexico located on the Baja California Peninsula. Just in case you didn’t know.
I confess I didn’t know that Baja California was not actually part of California. Gasp! I know but look it’s been over twenty years since I’ve been in school mmmkay.
That’s a good excuse, right?
The world is full of some pretty creative people! Everyone makes their fish tacos a little different. And of course, that is okay!! We love the variety right? Some people like a creamy avocado lime sauce on their Baja fish tacos. Which is delicious but there is just something truly incredible about a creamy, smokey, chipotle cream sauce on a fish taco.
3 Simple Ingredients in this Chipotle Cream Sauce Recipe.
This recipe is ridiculously easy. All you need is Tobasco Chipotle Pepper Sauce, Chipotle Powder Spice, and Daisy Sour Cream…yes, it must be DAISY brand! **This post is NOT sponsored by Daisy** I just happen to love Daisy!
No other sour cream compares to the quality of Daisy. If you use another brand of sour cream to make this recipe, don’t blame me when your cream sauce is sub-par. Just sayin. Quality ingredients are key.
Mix together in a small bowl 1/3 cup sour cream, 2 tablespoons Tabasco Chipotle Pepper Sauce, and a pinch of Chipotle Powder Spice.

Pour the Chipotle cream sauce in a squeeze container if you want it to look real purty. But we usually just dollop it on our fish tacos.
More Ways to Use Chipotle Cream Sauce.
This sauce would be a great dipping sauce for Air Fryer Frozen Taquitos! Or you could also use it as dressing for taco salad. It is also really good on a Mexican rice bowl! It would be amazing on avocado toast with an over-easy egg for breakfast!

Chipotle Cream Sauce For Fish Tacos
- 1/3 cup Daisy sour cream If you don't like sour cream, feel free to use mayonnaise or greek yogurt. It will still be delicious!
- 2 tbs Tobasco chipotle pepper sauce
- 1 pinch chipotle powder
- Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
