RV Lifestyle ~ Our Story

Hi, I’m Leigh Ann. Welcome to Making My Abode On The Road!

Native Colorado girl here! Colorado = mountains and I LOVE me some mountains! Although my love for the mountains runs deep, I dream of the beach daily. I love the Lord,  I love my family, and I love my dogs. I REALLY enjoy a good cup of coffee, the occasional cocktail (Here is my current favorite!), good food, and living the RV lifestyle!

My husband and I have been married for 21 years, 20 of which I have been a full-time homemaker! If time in service makes you an expert than I most certainly am an expert homemaker, in my humble opinion. However, I didn’t start out that way. Living well on one income hasn’t always been easy. If we can do it, SO CAN YOU! I am a firm believer that where there is a will there is a way!

We have three beautiful girls and two Labrador retrievers.

Here we are on a beautiful Oregon beach. This was our seventeen day, 2017 summer road trip. We drove from Colorado all the way to Tacoma, WA. We drove up the California coast, making lots of stops along the way, including the Redwood National Park! ALL PAID FOR IN COLD HARD CASH! Thanks to my handy dandy budgeting skills.

RV lifestyle

When it comes to living on one income, or even 2 for that matter, budgeting is your BFF! Keeping and sticking to a budget has made it possible for me to be home with our girls, take wonderful vacations, have nice things, and still have money left over.

Our vacations always left us longing for more, more quality time together! My husband was working his life away and weekends were filled with yard work and other things that he couldn’t attend to during the week. My days were filled with constant cleaning and maintaining a bunch of STUFF that I could never seem to be fully caught up on. Which sometimes left me not the funnest person to be around. Working and not living was taking it’s toll on all of us. Monday through Friday, I sent my oldest girls off to an istitutionalized learning facility, where their creative gifts were mostly stifled. We weren’t spending quality time together as a family, my biggest regret! I believe that happiness is a choice, but when your time is gobbled up by things that don’t really matter, it is a struggle to say the least.

Life is too short to waste even one second of time.

The “American dream” of owning a home, working the same job for 20-40+ years, and then retiring COMPLETELY lost it’s appeal. The American dream was starting to feel more like a deadly TRAP. Working 80 hours a week, then spending your precious time off, WORKING to maintain a house that you’ll be paying for basically FOREVER, doesn’t scream freedom to me.

Once we realized that time was passing us by we started trying to figure out how to get back some of that time. Jeff and I commited to spending our weekends together as a family, as much as possible. Hiking became one of our favorite things to do! We bought a jeep and started exploring our own back yard more and more. YouTube introduced us to many families living the RV lifestyle which sparked a fire in us!

Our retirement plans were to one day life the RV lifestyle and travel the country. But that meant we wouldn’t be able to experience those adventures with our kids.

We decided to take a leap of faith and live a life of travel and adventure…with our kids. We bought a truck and an RV, got rid of most everything we owned, and hit the road!
