Failure to plan ahead can lead to disappointment, so don’t overlook this essential step.

Both Rogers Park and the state park tend to be less crowded during weekdays, allowing you to enjoy the serenity of the springs without excessive traffic. While weekends may still be manageable at the state park due to reservation restrictions, weekdays offer a better chance of a more relaxed and enjoyable experience.

To secure a good spot and beat the crowds, it’s advisable to arrive early in the morning. Although we arrived at 8 am, the park was already bustling with visitors. Bugs, especially yellow flies, can be a nuisance in the area, particularly in shaded spots. We made the mistake of forgetting to bring bug spray, which resulted in a few uncomfortable bites. Make sure to pack bug spray to protect yourself from pesky insects and enhance your comfort during your RV travel adventure.

Mistake #5: Remember to Bring Snacks

While we had the intention to bring snacks, we regrettably forgot to pack them in our dry bags. Kayaking or paddleboarding in the springs can be physically demanding, and having snacks on hand is essential to replenish your energy levels. Don’t make the same oversight; ensure you have plenty of snacks packed and ready to enjoy during your trip.

Mistake #6: Be Selective with Dining Options

Although this mistake doesn’t directly relate to Weeki Wachee Springs, it’s worth mentioning. We spotted a billboard for a hot dog restaurant near the area and decided to stop for lunch. Coney Island Drive-Inn offers a huge selection of specialty hot dogs, including a gator dog with swamp slaw and a classic Chicago Dog. Coney Island Drive-Inn has an eclectic & quirky vintage style vibe that everyone loves. There’s tons of interesting things to look at while you’re waiting for your order! Rumor has it back in 1961 the king himself, Elvis Presley ate a foot long hot dog here. The mistake we made was not upgrading the dog to a Nathan’s! So stop by and don’t forget to make it a Nathan’s! I wonder if the king made it a Nathan’s…
