It seems to have become quite popular to make your own seasonings these days. Whether it’s to have less processed foods in your diet or to save money, making your own seasonings is a great option! There are a ton of Homemade taco meat seasoning recipes out there and each one is just a bit different. Mine is no exception! I’ve developed it to the taste of my family and you can certainly do the same.

You will need 9 spices to make this homemade taco meat seasoning.
All of which are readily available in most homes. With the possible exception of ground coriander and chipotle powder. You can leave them out but keep in mind these two ingredients add TONS of flavor.
That is where I get my ground coriander! I stopped buying chipotle powder like a hundred years ago and started making my own. Nothing more than smoked jalapeños!

Which chili powder makes the best homemade taco meat seasoning?
This one! In my humble opinion. It’s my favorite. ♥
You can use your favorite chili powder of course.
I am partial to Colorado chili. What can I say? Isn’t it beautiful?
Salt or no salt?
My homemade taco meat seasoning can be made both ways. With salt or without salt. Either way, it is full of flavor and absolutely delicious! It is completely up to you.
I personally like to add pink Himalayan sea salt. You can buy a big bag on Amazon at a very reasonable price!
Mix up all your ingredients
and store your taco meat seasoning in an airtight container.
You can add all the ingredients right in the jar you’re going to store it in, place a lid on it, and shake it up. A little fork action might also help to get it started.
How to use your taco meat seasoning…
Brown your meat. Add taco seasoning along with 1/4 cup of water. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
**Use 1-2 tablespoons of seasoning per 1 pound of meat. Start with one tablespoon and see how you like it. I usually do 1 and 1/2 tablespoons.**

Homemade Taco Meat Seasoning Printable Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 2 tbsp cumin
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp crushed red pepper flake
- 1 tbsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp chipotle powder **Link to homemade chipotle powder recipe above**
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1 tbsp sea salt **THE SALT IS COMPLETELY OPTIONAL** There is a ton of flavor even without the salt. It is a great salt-free option. ♥
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients into a jar with a lid and give it a good shake until fully combined.
- To make tacos: Brown your meat. Add 1-2 tbsp seasoning along with 1/4 cup water. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
